Facts about the Surgery:
labiaplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at modifying the appearance of the labia minora (the two inner skin folds that surround the opening of the vagina). This surgery is a sensitive one since patients and doctors have both medical and psychological aspects that they need to consider prior to agreeing to it. Women undergo this procedure for various reasons, including natural structural changes, aesthetic improvement, or to correct birth defects. Some women may be born with large, irregular, or small labia that affect their confidence. Protruded labia minora may also result from hormonal changes during repeated pregnancies or from chronic friction, irritation and inflammation.
The labia minora usually protrude barely outside the labia majora, if at all. In cases of enlargement, the labia minora can clearly protrude beyond the borders of the labia majora. This protrusion causes problems for some women, not only from an aesthetic standpoint, but from a medical standpoint, as this protrusion may cause some problems such as recurrent infections or discomfort during sexual activity and problems with personal hygiene. Therefore, considering plastic surgery for such sensitive organs can improve comfort, confidence and general health of women. This cosmetic procedure is external and doesn’t include tightening of the internal part of the vagina.
Private area plastic surgery is a simple procedure that takes approximately half an hour. It is performed under general or partial anesthesia, where excess part of labia minora is removed and sutured in a cosmetic manner. The surgical sutures used are dissolvable and do not need to be removed after healing. Inner labia reduction can be combined with autologous fat injection to the outer labia (labia majora) to enhance the overall appearance of the private area.
While the vaginal area is sensitive, most patients find that labiaplasty is less painful than what they expected, the pain after this operation is very mild and can be controlled with painkillers. After two weeks, the wounds become practically imperceptible. It is recommended to refrain from any kind of friction in the intimate area, whether through exercise or sexual intercourse during the first postoperative month. This procedure has a very high level of satisfaction.
